Tejashwi Yadav, a prominent leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has declared assets worth approximately ₹8.1 crore, as detailed in his affidavit submitted with his nomination papers.
On Wednesday, Yadav filed his nomination for the Raghopur assembly constituency in Bihar. According to the affidavit, his wife, Rajshree, also known as Rachel Iris Godinho, possesses assets totaling ₹1.88 crore.
Upcoming Elections in Bihar
Voting for the first phase in the Raghopur assembly constituency is scheduled for November 6. Tejashwi Yadav currently serves as the sitting MLA for this seat, having first won it in 2015.
The Bihar assembly elections will take place in two phases, on November 6 and November 11.
Breakdown of Assets and Liabilities
As per the affidavit, Tejashwi Yadav's assets include ₹6.12 crore in movable property and ₹1.88 crore in immovable property. His wife, Rajshree, holds immovable assets valued at ₹59.69 lakh.
Tejashwi has ₹1.5 lakh in cash, while his wife has ₹1 lakh. The RJD leader has multiple bank accounts and a total liability of ₹55.55 lakh, which stems from joint loans taken with his brother Tej Pratap Yadav and mother Rabri Devi.
Government Dues and Precious Metals
Tejashwi's total government dues are reported to be ₹1.35 crore. His wife also has several bank accounts but does not carry any liabilities or government dues.
In his affidavit, Tejashwi disclosed that he owns 200 grams of gold, while his wife possesses 480 grams of gold and 2 kilograms of silver.
This election marks Tejashwi Yadav's third consecutive attempt to secure the Raghopur seat, as he aims for a hat-trick victory.
Political Context
Tejashwi Yadav's party, the RJD, is part of the 'India' alliance, which is contesting against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United).
